Notes from the studio — on material, sound, and what happens between the notes.

Thoughts on my work

In constant dialogue with metal — a material that also makes up much of the earth's mass — I developed a language of form and sound over the years. Forging, reshaping and heating leave their traces. The welding flame, an almost meditative point of light, gives rise to objects in which sound and form find each other. Tuning is the patient, ever more precise working of the parts; it leads chaos into a self-evident order. Their mutual resonance produces spherical, gong-like tones.

I see myself as a mediator between visual art and music.

Experimental, contemporary music and the development of sound sculptures have become my passion.

My anarchic sonic growths allow a tonal language that combines beautifully with existing instruments. Water, wind and fire make for interesting collaborators. Chance sounds meet precise tonal design; tuned tones meet the fascinating sounds of various metals and other materials.
